    Hola all,

    Oddly, as I awake, I find myself posting in FTN's .. must be a dream.

    Ok, so I'm having this issue and wanted to know if others are or if a setting exists to fix my message read issue.

    On several occasions, I'll read a written post, and there will be up to 30 blank lines between random sentences, making the post rather hard to read. I originally thought it was a 132x37 user posting, while I'm reading in 80x25; however I've noticed even when peeps post in 80x25, and I read in 80x25, same issue.

    Is there a fix for this or just a known issue with an unknown fix?

    Any assistance would be much appreciated.

    Just some more CHATTER about this; I notice it on tG's BBS a lot... and have seen it on FTN posts from other systems, too - but I don't experience it on 2o... I wanna say AT ALL, but maybe once... twice...

    I DON'T use 132col at all; could it be something there?
    But mL doesn't use 132c either... hmmm.

    Its a weird one; I don't experience it - we gotta keep sniffing.

    Yeah, I know it's been since teh .47 update but not sure which one. I had always written it off as a 132x37 issue posting, then reading at 80x25, but I almost exclusively post and read messages in 80x25, so much so that I forget to call into my BBS at 132x37 (it needs some attention for sure ..)

    I can only think it's one of two things: switching from windows to my RPI4? Could the data files be affected by the difference in OS's? If so, I need to see which ones to delete and rescan .. my /data directory is huge.

    The other thing I want to check is my .ini files for my custom post and read ansi's. But .. they look fine when posting and reading on echo's I've added since switching OS's, but not so well on those echo's that moved over with my files.

    The only other conclusion could be having 132x37 and 80x25 themes, and maybe there is a conflict in which messages aren't saving as they should for one reason or another. I dunno. But if you've noticed them on your BBS, are they only messages that come from mine? Or even messages from other BBS's and/or your own?

    Can't be that surely, as I have never used Windows, and I still experience it, not from posts from you, but posts from myself. When posted they look fine, but when the state changes to Echo Read and I re-read it, it is then happening.

    one thing you could try is resetting a base that it's happened in, rescanning that base for X days and then see if it happens again in that base. If it's base datafile related, resetting it could clear up the issue.

    This won't work, I just checked the hubs and the gaps appear in the message on the hubs as well, so I think Mystic at the BBS level when creating the message is _adding_ the 6 empty lines _before_ it leaves the bbs to go to the hub.

    Weirdness.

    Is there a fix for this or just a known issue with an unknown fix?

    I have just figured out how to fix it. It's more a work around, but it works seemingly 100%

    The issue is caused by the word wrapping in Mystic leaving a line with 79 chars + 1 white space, so the 81st char is the new line. To stop this happening, in your /path/to/mystic/themes/default/text/msg_editor.ini make the following changes;

    Line 51 (on mine at least) has this;
    Coord2 = 79,22,0

    Change it to read;
    Coord2 = 78,22,0

    The next change is on line #92 (for me), by default has this;
    str5 = |16|08|$D32- END OF MESSAGE |$D31-

    Change it to read;
    str5 = |16|08|$D32- END OF MESSAGE |$D30-

    Then all your problems will be solved going forward.
    It won't fix already sent/received messages, but will stop YOU from creating them in the future. If everyone can do this, it will help solve the issue.

    You're welcome =)

    So I've not noticed anything like you are describing...

    I think it's just a Mystic issue to be honest.

    It sounds like it might be.

    Couple of things you guys can do to pin point it.

    If you keep a copy of mail before it is tossed, you can verify that the incoming packets are OK (or not) and/or its the BBS.

    Since Mystic uses JAM mailbases, you can use another mail reader (like Golded) and see if it too shows the issue (then you know if it is just Mystic rendering a message, or if its stored badly in the Jam DB.

    Thanks for the info Meatlotion. My line wrap was set at 77 characters,
    and my end of message was set at 27. I did change the line wrap to 78, however my EOM line needed to be shorter due to my ansi wrap within the message_editor ansi.

    Maybe this will read right to myself as well as on your end, and we can move on with life :) I tested on one of my local areas and it appeared to work fine. Odd that 77 characters would not work, 79+1 I can understand, but I just woke up and am glad to read this as the likely solution!

    Awesome, well I'm glad I managed to figure it out, I got a response back from g00r00 about it, and well, lets just say he was less inclined to think that it's a problem because he doesn't see it.

    Anyway, I've given him as much info as I can, if he looks at the screenshots and his code, maybe he can find out what's happening, until then at least we have a possible fix that seems to work great right now.

    Ha! Check out the FidoNet Mystic Support reply I got relating to it. It was more of an educational reply on how to hard stop paragaphs. I think if we could export one of the messages I replied to in General BBS chat on TQW, he could see all of the blank lines between messages. While those may have been older messages prior to your fix (as I am still waking up and didn't realize our conversation existed here and not on TQW General BBS chat) maybe he'd see the issue?

    I can't see your reply or his to you on fdn: mystic, however he gave me what I imagine to be a "default stance until something makes him check it out and see what we're talking about" kinda message. I have sent him screenshots and exports and an explanation to why I think it's happening to both discord and the gmail addy and backed up on the fidonet: mystic base.

    I don't think he will really investigate unless either enough people talk about it, or he gets bored one day lol. Either way we have a potential fix, just need people who use mystic to apply it and hopefully it'll be solved.
