first of all, sorry for the confusion. I'm indeed the same person as katzen on the BlackICE BBS. I did not associate the term you wrote with this board for some reason.

Yes, I have 2 cats at home but (with family members) I sometimes care for around 20 stray cats. Do you have any?

Yes, we (my wife and me) have two cats, gray-tigered european house cats.
We got them a while after our first cat (a also gray-tigered british shorthair) died.
We chose to give older cats a chance which normally have some problems to
get new homes when needed. Our first cat came from a cat shelter in Pforzheim. We found our new cats, Kaylie & Lexi (we kept the old names), through a classified ad. They are now 9 and 10 years old and really lovely
    :)

It's great that you care for stray cats! *thumbs-up*

Typically you would create a user account on each BBS, single sign-on is an invention of the 2010's, here in BBS world we have a more retro feel and as such use more traditional software and protocols.

I wouldn't say it's impossible, but I don't think it has been done, yet.

Question about that: Do you guys typically create a user account on each BBS, or can you somehow transfer your identity from one board to the other?

Typically its one user per BBS... our BBSes are ran on home servers, in the cloud or ... you're connecting directly.

However, the Legacy-X BBS Software project is using a 'home server' that will allow for one user account for any Legacy-X BBS.
You can find Legacy-X @ legacyx-bbs.com port 23 - but it is in some form of Beta/Alpha... the software isn't fully baked.

A couple of my favorite BBSes, which all need their own accounts, are:
    aBSINTHE @ absinthebbs.net port 1940
    Quantum Wormhole @ bbs.erb.pw port 23
    UNDERGROUDN @ www.theunderground.us port 10023
    hyperNODE @ hypernode.ddns.net port 23

And mine, 2o fOr beeRS listed below.

    Hey Anna,

Yes, we (my wife and me) have two cats, gray-tigered european house cats.

Nice, my first cat was like that. Loved him a lot. The cats we have right now were adopted as kittens in Croatia from my mother in law, someone wanted to drown them. They are mostly black with a bit of white on the breast. Extremely fluffy and relatively large, I guess there is some Norwegian forest cat in them.

We chose to give older cats a chance which normally have some problems

That's great. We usually take care of young cats and kittens in Croatia. There are many stray cats, we try to catch and neuter them because otherwise they get loads of kittens. We try to find people who adopt those kittens then. The wiser people in Croatia don't mind the cats because they kill snakes and other pests but some hate them and ...

They are now 9 and 10 years old

I think that's around the same age as ours. One lost a tooth and the other one often has a nasty infection with inflammation in his mouth. Otherwise they are healthy. Are yours healthy?

    Best regards,

Yes, especially given that the previous owners weren't that reliable concerning regular visits to the vet.

    Hallo katzen,

I tried that yesterday but I can't get through the email validation stage.
    I don't receive any email :(

I've looked at the problem, and it seems to be a bigger problem than I thought. My Synchronet installation is unable to send SMTP mails as it crashes with some "illegal opcode" message.
Simply recompiling the binaries did not solve the problem, so I've asked
    in DOVE-Net for some help.

In the meantime, I've enabled your account manually, so you should be able
    to log in.

I'm sorry that this is happening, but it is a follow-up problem to a
recent hardware change of my BBS; I moved the BBS from a Lenovo m92p Tiny (Intel i5) to an old IGEL ThinClient (VIA Nano CPU, which should be enough for this task). And this caused some problems, as it seems...

    Regards,
    Anna

    Howdy,

So I replied to your message in DOVE-net.

I'm thinking your re-compile didnt work - and you need to re-compile on the processor that will run it.

If you want you can try my docker image - it'll save re-compile time :)

I've seen it, thank you! :)

Now, after a 'real fresh' re-compile, it is running. I had to flatten out some problems, but now it seems to run again :)

@katzen: Thank you for making the problem appear, otherwise I wouldn't
    have seen it :)

    I don't think that I have nothing :)

    Hey Anna,

@katzen: Thank you for making the problem appear, otherwise I wouldn't have seen it :)

You're welcome :) I did not find the time yet to actually try out your BBS yet, it's pretty high on my TODO-list though.

Is it okay to discuss politics here? On twitter or reddit it usually turns into really hateful shitstorms. Left directed political opinions (which I have as well) become especially difficult once people from the US get involved.

Usually their "socialist left" is what we in Germany would call
"right leaning liberal capitalists" (FDP) while our left (which is mostly still pretty calm) would completely out of their spectrum.

Not meaning this as bashing on the US, just that our view on the political spectrum is quite drastically different and makes discussion difficult.

    Best regards,

    I don't know :)

That's also the reason I'm usually staying away from politics or "debate" forums eg. on DOVE-Net.

This time I only wanted to make a small comment on this tagline :)
