I want to setup a renegade to play with.
Who's board would be the best place to pickup
some of the best files to get myself going?
Like a matrix frontend and what not.
Also been a long, long time setting up front
door. What do most of use now for a tosser?

Here, and I still use IREX cause I love my FD/GEcho look and feel. :) But I'd use D'Bridge if I ever switched, Nick has a done a bunch of cool things with it.

Something I've learned in my years re-visiting older/DOS software--find things that have active contribution and usage. Renegade and D'Bridge are perfect combos for DOS-based BBSs. Maintainers are helpful and responsive!

I'm currently configuring RG on Linux (which, to be honest, is not really how this software is meant to be run, LOL) so I'm using Binkd and HPT for tossing. That may have to change soon :) ...

Right now I'm trying to figure out why 1.25 worked on win 7 but I loaded
win 10 and it doesn't and 1.33 doesn't even come close to running for me on
win 10, laughing this morning 5 hours in and still no luck.

I was wondering how it would work in DOSbox is net2bbs much faster anyone?
Heck I may try it on debian or ubuntu if all else fails.

I read some of your other messages - To make the most of your fun-time you are best to slap together an old computer or spin up a virtual machine running Windows XP or 7. Those are the best OS's to run RG on... nice and clean.

"Something" happened to Windows 10 where NTVDM/DOS is broken or unreliable for running RG.

My system Darkrealms has ran RG for 20+ years on Windows XP, now virtualized on Vmware, happily tossing mail to over a hundred systems.

If I load net2bbs it states listening for telnet connection on port 2330
then load a telnet client it states connected about 60 seconds later it then
drops.

That's odd ... I've been running on Win10 since Win10 came out. I just rolled back to Win7 a few days ago after some of my doors no longer work because of something MS did with NTVDM in their latest update.

Did you add the % 1 (space left incase a bbs software changes it for an mci)) or whatever the docs say to run DOS based BBS's in nf.bat?

Other than, I have no idea ... Most of the other RG boards are on Win10 32bit as well that are on the telnet bbs list. Got me stumped.

That's probably the path I am on next (Win 7). Just need to firewall the machine on its own network. I honestly didn't think I'd get as far as I did with Linux, RG's running well, but realize dosemu2 has its own issues and the setup can be brittle, constantly shelling to access, etc. Cheers!

I just rolled back to Win7 the other day. I stripped everything, and since it doesn't update anymore, it's great. ;) It amazes me how much faster the board runs. I don't know why, well, I do, they are screwing with NTVDM in Win10. It gets worse with every update (which is every month now). When some of my doors wouldn't load anymore, I had to switch back.

Didn't have any issues running RG on Win10, just the older doors.

... I just tested out my pitbull. Ever heard a mime scream?

When the connection is answered, what "exactly" happens. Does the DOS session for RG actually spawn or does it do nothing?

Did you copy the DLL's into the \Windows\System32 directory?

Yup, over the years I've heard of some "problems" with RG on Dosemu and especially Dosbox. Its not so much RG as it is the door games... software mostly written by teenagers in the 90's.

Man are you right there, I got the latest iso release of windows 10
all kinds of MTVDM errors sooooooooooo back to windows 7 and soon as
it was install all the troubles were gone.

As stated before in a message, I downloaded the latest win10 iso.
All I got was MTVDM errors so back to win7 and loaded RG fired
up like a charm!
