I feel like they're perhaps doing a bit too much with the TOS era and prequels in Star Trek. First there was Star Trek: Enterprise
(2001-2005), then the rebooted JJ Abrams Star Trek movies, then
Discovery, and now Strange New Worlds.. It's fine, but I'm glad they're also making something in the TNG era (Star Trek: Picard and Lower
Decks). I also wouldn't mind seeing something filling in the gap
between TOS and TNG. We never did see much of the Enterprise B or C.

Yes it seems to be easier to go back in time and write to that era rather than look ahead which is kinda ironic given how look ahead TOS was for it's time.

I felt Enterprise was always a bit weak in terms of plots and creative juices in the scripts, and by then Berman and his crew had generated and shepherded a number of ST projects through from conception to fully developed project... but by the time of Enterprise it seemed to me the well was running dry.

I have never liked the JJ stuff/alternative time concepts for Trek although I did appreciate being able to watch some Trek :)

Yes to you thoughts about TNG and between Enterprise B or C..

I am enjoying the current visual FX used in SNW

Its only viewable on Amazon if you link your Paramount account to it. Typically you will be able to just purchase it at sometime. Cheaper than a monthly subscription. Might drop one and get paramount as I see many people talking about how great it is. Well see.

I thought Enterprise actually had some interesting plots and episodes, and it seemed to be picking up in season 4. I would have been curious to see more of the show. And more recently, I've heard they were going to supposedly show a refit Enterprise NX-01 with a secondary hull, which would have looked more like the Constitution class and other ships that came later.

I haven't followed it, so I don't know. I just looked it up, and it sounds like they didn't go out of business, but rather CBS merged back into Viacom and was integrated with some other content brands to become Paramount+.

OK thanks for the info, yes I am not on Amazon so at present can't watch it. I did get a copy of Season 1 of Picard and quite liked it. Sounds like season 3 will be full of TNG folks

Yeah, I wasn't aware that had happened. It's interesting, because I thought I had heard Paramount owned the rights to the movies and CBS owned the rights to the TV shows. It sounds like it's all under Paramount now, so I wonder if there will be fewer problems with copyrights throughout the Star Trek franchise.

Now, the suit against the people doing Axanar makes more sense - didn't want anything conflicting with Strange New Worlds, since they happen in
    relatively the same time frame.

Paramount came out with all sorts of rules, I think one of them was that TV/movie actors weren't allowed to do indie productions. Don't know if that would hold up in a court, but you'd easily find yourself unemployed by Paramount productions.

I did like that Paramount claimed copyright over several Star Trek cultural items, including the Klingon language. The defense proved that qualified as
a language because of external use and that it couldn't be copyrighted.
