• 64-bit games for Mystic

From Alonzo@21:1/130 to All on Wed Nov 8 10:22:59 2023
Hello all - I know I have asked this before but do any of you
know of some door games that will run on a 64-bit Windows system?
Anything at all? I have a few but I am looking for more.

Also, I have heard of programs that will allow you to run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit computer. Are these safe? I am hesitant to mess with these.
    Thanks!

NTVDM 64bit will allow you to use DOS doors on your 64 bit Mystic, I don't do it myself, but I have heard many who use it with no issues.. Google NTVDM 64 bit and grab it and see.. I don't believe it works on WIndows 11 but it does on 10..

Hypothetically any door that can use door32.sys will work.

You won't have any problems running 32 bit programs, but you /will/ have problems running 16 bit programs, which is what old DOS doors are.

The typical workaround is ntvdmx64 but your mileage may vary.

Maybe in practice a lot of them are, but door32.sys is just a dropfile format. There's no requirement or garauntee that the door be 32 bit (or even for windows).

The 32 is kind of misleading, because it has nothing to do with the drop file format.

The reason most door32.sys doors are 32bit is because it's a new format that gOOrOO made up more recently, so most new doors support it. Plus it's easier to find documentation on and is a much simpler dropfile format (and all the modern BBSes seem to support it).

Ok, I will keep this in mind. Thank you.
