I use GMail, you choose the option for a using a app password, it's very easy if you google app password in GMail. I use it and have had no issues at all..

I would /not/ advise running your email server. It's doable, but to ensure your emails don't go into peoples' spam boxes, it'll take a ton of work, and they're a PITA to maintain.

What's the deal with google? I've got mine linked up to gmail and it works as far as I can tell. Did they change the TOS or something?

Ok - I did see SOMETHING about that option... maybe I'll write up a how-to after I figure it out. Thanks for the tips, I'll copy and paste into my smtp_info.txt. :P

I use smtp2go for my outbound BBS email (even though I'm using SBBS). I havent had any troubles with it.

Microsoft 365 should do it.. but you're probably talking $6/mo each for you personally (if you use email at your bbs domain) and one for your automated sysop messages. Unless you don't mind the emails looking like they come directly from you.

A LOT of companies use it for legacy stuff .. basically you go into the 'advanced' Exchange server bits and allow smtp, add whitelisted IPs, etc.

This will break every time your IP changes though.. best have some reminder cause I don't think it can be automated.

Let me know if you need help with getting it going, Once I figured it out it worked pretty easily. Then again it took me a few hours to figure it out.. LOL

Bucko told me I need to setup gmail to allow an 'app password' - so I guess I'm gonna check into that...

Dunno why I got 'TOS'ed' at 2 SMTP services tho... ugh. :P

Me too - I used them for 2 years, and then my account suddenly wasn't working anymore. The more this going on (I've now been TOS banned at both Benvo.com and smtp.com), I'm wondering if my smtp2go account was actually TOS'd, too - for some reason I'm now aware of...

Gonna look into my old smtp2go account. :/ Thanks..

bad user reporting it as spam?

i'm not really sure what google does when you report spam, but they added that force-unsubscribe thing a couple years back and i could see them emailing a generic notification to your host. afaik mystic wouldn't have an unsubscribe link, which also doesn't look good if someone manually reviews your emails..

    ... I wish life had a scroll-back buffer.

I've been using SendGrid for a few years now to relay outbound BBS mail... the free tier should work well enough. You'll need to configure some DNS entries to get it to work, so you really need your own domain and not a ddns ideally.
