• Future feature in Mystic

From Deyssman@21:1/127 to All on Sun Aug 13 10:34:58 2023
Would it be possible to have in a future feature in Mystic to have a flashing indicator of new netmail, maybe with an audible chirp like Frontdoor had back
in the day? That would be nice, still loving Mystic BBS as it is.

not sure how mystic is configured by default but i have my system show new messages a little bit like how sync does when you log in:

in menus under prelogin -> FIRSTCMD i have some commands like these:

< snipped: user logged in, display last callers, bulletin, etc ..>

    (MC) Check e-mail /UNREAD /SCAN

    (MQ) Message quick scan /YOU /NOREAD /NOFOOT /LIST
(-R) Reset OK ACS flags 0
(GT) Display line of text !OY |PA
(-Y) Ask Yes/No OY you have new messages wanna read?
    (MN) Message new scan OK /P /G /NOFROM /NOREAD

might take some tinkering but you'll end up with an overview of new stuff since you logged in last. not sure if netmail comes across as "email" or as an "echomail" message as far as mystic is concerned but one of those scans would catch it.

I just thought of something. In the Prelogin menu, you can choose to execute a Python scrip or a Mystic MPL program. So if you can write or find something that would do what you want, that may be the way to go.

I would like to hear a little beep whenever somone logs on. I think that is possible, although I haven't set that up yet.

you can just run an mp3 player (like mpg123) instead of a "door" and have it play a ding or something else.

    i didn't try it but: https://superuser.com/questions/101974/play-a-sound-maybe-wav-from-windows-line
    -command

    powershell -c (New-Object Media.SoundPlayer "C:\Windows\Media\notify.wav").PlaySync();

seems like it might work without having to install anything. there are also examples to use vlc or maybe other stuff you might already have.

I was thinking more in terms of "new" netmail on the frontend of what would be considered as the mailer_frontend, not necessary for a caller to the BBS.
