• Did you break 21:4/100?

From McDoob@21:4/135 to Avon on Sun Jan 9 00:35:46 2022
    Hi Avon;

Something went wrong with my connection to the hub tonight. Take a look:

    Scanning 21:4/100
    Queued 0 files (0 bytes) to 21:4/100
Polling BINKP node 21:4/100 (Black Panther) by IPV4
    Connecting to bbs.castlerockbbs.com:24560 port 24560
    Connected IPV4 to 24.116.90.145
    System fsxHUB Niba [NET4]
    SysOp Black Panther
    Location Rio Rancho, NM, USA
    Info NDL 115200,TCP,BINKP
    Info TIME Sat, 8 Jan 2022 22:19:06 -0700
    Mailer binkd/1.1a-112/Linux binkp/1.1
    Info TRF 0 1677002
    Receiving: ce181236.sa2 (657 bytes)
    Already have MyGUI0v1.0.2.26.zip; Skipping
    Session timeout
Session ended (0 sent, 1 rcvd, 1 skip)

Every time I poll the node, it times out. And always right after skipping
that MyGUI file. My fidopoll log shows that this activity started about an
hour ago. I'm also seeing the hub trying to connect to my BinkP port multiple times at once, which is being blocked as a duplicate IP.

Everything was working just fine, until an hour ago. I don't *think* I
screwed something up, though I am trying to get FidoNet connected...

I've already tried that a couple times. The hub poll has the same result, minus the skipping. Whatever is happening, it's getting worse:

    Scanning 21:4/100
    21:4/100 is busy; skipping

And, my mailin/mailout has completely broke down: Cannot import. Some nodes are BUSY

At this point, PiBBS is totally offline! (Q_Q)

However, since this message is being sent from Castle Rock BBS, at least THAT'S working!

Erm...I figured out how to solve this one on my own...I found some .bsy files in my echomail/out folders. Once I removed those, the hub suddenly wasn't busy anymore...

    The original problem still exists...

That probably would have been easier than manually deleting all of the *.bsy files. Sure wish you had told me that earlier! XD

As you can see, PiBBS is back online, so it's a non-issue at this point.

BUT! The original problem with MyGUI is still relevant! And I'm not the only one who's having the same problem! Please reference TALIADON's message in FSX_MYSTIC

Yep on it, the issue is that the file name I hatched out contained a space and that space is not playing nice when trying to be sent between some mailers. I have asked HUB admins to delete the file from nodes file boxes at each HUB and also from the HUB.

I hope to rehatch in a few days time when sorted but use a file name minus any spaces.

I got the .tic here but not the file. I suspect but I don't know that BBBS's mailer may have taken issue with the space in the filename and that is why the file never arrived.

I'll keep an eye out for the next hatch and hope it goes where it needs to go.

I had a feeling that this was the problem, after reading TALIADON's messages. Just a reminder, you're the HUB admin for 21:4 right now...

    Thanks for looking into this!

For the record, my most recent BinkP connection still has the problem, literally as I type this...

That doesn't sound good... generally this happens if some software is running an external process and doesn't encapsulate arguments in quotes.

So, something like ./ticproc My File.zip would be 2 arguments passed to ticproc "My" and "File.zip"

Makes me wonder what would happen if you hatched "My File.zip && rm -rf /" or something nasty like that.

BTW, it was received here fine, spaces and all ;P

I read your message about that. And, always, life comes before the Net.

I've managed to make things work, even with this new error. Perhaps I was mistaken when I assumed that Dan gave you the same access to NET 4 HUB that

I can't speak for everyone on NET 4, obviously, but I'm hoping they'll read this thread and figure out their own solutions!
