We have awnings on our top floor, they magnify the sound of the rain. When it's really stormy, and the city is quiet in the middle of the night we can hear the surf crashing at night - very peaceful.
sounds nice, there's certainly something comforting about hearing such sounds while tucked up in bed, so long as it's not drip drip :)
That reminds me of a couple of years ago while we were camping at Rock Point Provincial Park. The camp site we chose was on a small peninsula, so we were surrounded by Lake Erie on three sites.
Laying in the tent at night we were able to hear waves on three sides, it was indeed peaceful.
