At least my tooth is "fixed" so I am no longer gouging a hole into
the side of my tounge everytime I speak. The rest of it isn't changing anytime soon.
well that's a start at least.... yeah, my wife went to the dentist y/day after a few years of not going. It actually turned out alright for her
and she had no holes... I was amazed, so was she :)

I have to go to the dentist today myself for a deep cleaning. they are breaking it up into 4 visits. not very much fun.
For now. :) I expect it will be pulled in Oct
though. It's half a tooth and out of that half
it's 95% filling at this point.
When I had the oral cancer in 2007 they had to
remove all my back teeth and re-arrange my jaw
so it's a challenge to keep the few teeth I
have left.
4 visits, crumbs. Here I would go to some dentists and they would do the clean and also any fillings in one go. The current dentist I go to does split up the clean from the dentist/dental work so you end up either
going twice :( or booking in things back to back :)

Being a "bruxist" is that even a word, from wayback... both a
clencher and a grinder at different times, the state of my teeth
is...well rather knackered. Most have no surface left on them,
and they're wearing away at a marvellous rate. Add to this, I've
been swallowing pain relief daily for the better part of 10
years, I also get little feedback from my mouth about whats going
on in there.
On of the requirements of getting into "community dental" here is
what level of pain you have, I either say none, because I've got
heft pain relief already or I make up a magic number and roll
around on the floor in pretend agony. This means I don't see a
dentist very often.. and usually only when there's already a
substantial problem, like half my tooth fell off, and now I'm
constantly biting the inside of lip or something, so please put
something in the hole to fix it. We can rebuild it, you will have
the worlds 1,000,000th bionic tooth.
The first thing I get as I lounge back in the chair, semi blinded
by the light, and wondering dreamily how long this will take, and
are they using weird raincoat device is. GAH look at all the
damage in there... so you get your running repair, they put you
on a 2 year wait list, that never comes around, and the next time something catastrophic happens you go back for another round.
Is there some reason you don't get your teeth properly fixed, rather
than hopping from one catastrophic event to the next?

Now thats a reasonable question... in short, cost. Once upon a
time, when I was hale and hearty and could hold down a job, I had
health insurance and went to the dentist every six months.
The first thing that got hit was health insurance, it went
through the roof must be 30 odd years ago... I'm not clear how I
came to have it at the time I got my back surgery now... but
after that it was all over... No job, no real income...
pension...
So after having had insurance defray the costs for as long as I
could remember... going to the dentist itself became horribly
expensive too, couple with my regular dentist retiring, and
finding it difficult to get a decent replacement.
So... lack of work, and or further injury. Cost of health
insurance, followed by increasing cost of Dental work. And
current and ongoing pension income rates.
Being on a pension I qualify for "community dental" out of the
local hospital, but they're overwhelmed. You really need an
emergency case to get in the door. You'll get the emergency
dealt with. Puts you in the queue for another appt 2 years down
the track by which time whats happening bares little resemblence
to your last visit. Not to mention emergency appointments trump
scheduled appointments...
