I might have previously gone under the names of tekhammer or
SpiroDotgeek. But what's in a name?

Hi Joe, and welcome back! :)
I thought I had that Doom feeling coming on.... it's like an Omen or something.... "JOE DOOM BACK ON THE SCENE"
WELCOME BACK!
Welcome back! Glad to have you here!
Sounds like a nice setup! =)
Joe Dooooom.... I think it should have more of a reverb on it :)
Nice to see you back in the swim good sir.
You are not the only one... Oh and you may want to say hi to Hyjinx
who is
also in your part of the world and runs 'Als Geek Lab' on YouTube :)
And wow, I've missed so much! Business is booming in the BBS world now. Was real quiet when I left.
So many BBS packages are getting updated now too. It was hard to choose.
Yep, I also noticed this -- *lots* of people starting up their BBSes
again, and lots of new ones, too!
I used to run RemoteAccess in the 90s, but thought it would be better
to go for some "native" Linux software when reviving my BBS. Still
much of a stock install, but with some ANSI stuff from the old BBS,
and have been working on getting some FTNs connected and things
working correctly rather than customizing too much... at least yet. :)
Great to have you along! What's your board deets?
Thanks very much. It's @ lostunderground.org
Hi Al, haha wasn't expecting someone local. :) Damn this BBS thing must really be making a comeback. haha
I'm in Wellington too. Wainui in fact. :) And people keep telling me it was snow, but I just thought it was hail. Not that I was too keen to
check it out. I was working from home, and only went out to go and
Well now, this is relevant to my interests. :)
Sweet! I've signed up for an account! Great to have another NZ board!
wonder how many there are now (must be more than just you, me and
Avon!).
Wow! Mind blown! We should catch up for a yarn at some point, there
can't be
too many BBSers cutting around in Wellington!
Hope you enjoy the series! New one coming soon.
:) cheers. Yeah there are a few others, but I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't checked them out this time around. They're on my todo list.
Quite likely! I live in J'ville, are you through my way often-ish? If so, we could meet up at 1841 bar, or I could pop out to the Hutt :)Wow! Mind blown! We should catch up for a yarn at some point, there can't be

Yeah for sure.. It'd good to know if there are.. You think they're
reading this and chuckling at us silently? hehe
When I was on facebook, I had organised a semi-regular meetup for old BBSers from back in the day. At the time (maybe 6 years ago?) I ran a board back then too, but couldn't get people logging in and caring.. even if it wasn't my board.. they seem to have done their dash and that was
the way to communicate at the time, but now it's facebook.
I could probably rustle up a few of them to go to a boozer much easier than getting them to log into a telnet BBS tho. ;)

I have seen some (global) changes in attitude in the last 1.5 years that way though. I myself have pretty much given up on Facebook and I know a lot of others have too, some of us that are of the BBS era are using
BBSes much more now than they did back in Facebook's heyday (i.e. around
6 years ago!). So, if mighht be worth reaching out again...
EvilCorp platforms anymore. Originally Fecesbook was a Darpa / CIA
project called "LifeLog" the day that Fecesbook went live, LifeLog
closed its doors. so basicly it was a hand off of a Darpa CIA project
from Dev to Prod. and they hired whats his name to be the front man for

ain't nothing wrong with a trip to the boozer neither ;)
If you both end up meeting I'm going throw my name in the hat for a
meetup
sometime too... I don't get up to Welly that often but if/when I do
I'd let
you both know :)
That would be excellent to finally meet you in person. :)
